Coal Collections

On March 28, 2017, Professor Nick Kupensky participated in a panel “Pennsylvania’s Anthracite Coal Region: Present to Future” at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. Part of Bucknell University’s “Coal Collections” series, the event also featured presentations by Bode Morin, site administrator of the Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum and Iron Furnaces, and Tyler Candelora, ’19. Kupensky’s talk, “The Coal Region Renaissance: Mahanoy City’s Carpatho-Rusyns and the Life and Work of Emil Kubek,” discussed how and why the Coal Region produced a brief – but influential – cultural Renaissance among its Slavic immigrant communities. For more information about other events in the series, see Coal Collections.
