Mahanoy Area Historical Society

If you can’t wait for us to add new materials to the Emil Kubek Digital Archive, stop in to the Mahanoy Area Historical Society, which has one of the largest collections of materials by and about Emil Kubek in the United States. Flip through Kubek’s comparative dictionary, examine Anthony Kubek’s illustrations in Narodny povísti i stichi, research the parish history of St. Mary’s, or read articles from the Record American, Tri-Weekly Herald, and American Rusyn Messenger about the Carpatho-Rusyn community in town. Additionally, their webmaster Paul Coombe is of Carpatho-Rusyn ancestry (whose maternal line emigrated from Čabiny, Zemplin County, Slovakia). Paul’s mother was Kubek’s laundress, and his father served as the cantor of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church under Anthony Kubek.
